Walking For Health

The Walking For Health programme is run throughout the district by the Sport and Leisure Department at Teignbridge District Council.

Trained volunteer walk leaders take groups out on local walks all of which have been risk assessed in advance. The volunteers have all also undergone First Aid training.

Walks are graded according to the ability of the walker. In Kingsteignton we have volunteers who take 3 different walks:

1. Mondays at 10.30 – a walk for fitter people that can walk for an hour or so at a reasonable speed

2. Mondays at 10.30 – a slightly slower and shorter walk for those who are reasonably fit but want to walk more gently

3. Wednesdays at 10.30 – a shorter walk for those who want a gentle stroll

These walks are based from Kingsteignton Medical Practice but their starting point is often at a mutually agreed alternative location i.e. the Wednesday walk meets alternately at the surgery and the Hackney Marsh car park with a trip out most months on the bus to Stover Park, Exeter or the Haldon Hills.

Click here for details of this month’s walks or look out for posters in the surgery or ring the KingsCare office.

All walks stop for refreshments in a café along the way and many friendships are formed as people walk along.
